How do I use Interlibrary Loan?

What kinds of items can I request through Interlibrary Loan, how would I place a request, and how long will it take to get my loan?

Answer

You can request almost any kind of material through Interlibrary Loan. This includes Books, CDs, DVDs, Musical Scores, and Articles. You will only need to request an item through Interlibrary Loan if the item you are searching for is not available via Murray State.

  • If you are searching in a database or WorldCat:
    • Look for the yellow "Get it @ MSU" button, click on it. This will show you if the item is available in another database or will provide you with a link to request the item through Interlibrary Loan.
    • Click on the link. You will be taken to a login page - enter your MyGate credentials here.
    • If you use the link, the request should autofill. If it does not, manually fill in the required fields to complete the request.
  • To request an item manually
    • from the library homepage select interlibrary loan or use this link https://1165.account.worldcat.org/profile/
    • log in with your MyGate credentials
    • select create a request and then fill out the required fields

Most digital loans will be available to you within 24-48 hours, physical items may take a few day or up to a week. To check the status of your loan follow the steps for requesting an item manually minus the last step.
